SRPD officer arrests man for possession of concealed firearm

On January 3, 2026, at approximately 11:25 a.m., a Santa Rosa Police Department officer was conducting proactive patrol when the officer observed a vehicle in violation of several sections of the California Vehicle Code.  The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on the vehicle and contacted the driver, Edgar Vela, a 33-year-old Portland, Oregon resident. The officer observed several open containers of Marijuana inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle, in violation of Section 23222(b) of the California Vehicle Code. The officer conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located a loaded revolver in the glove compartment. Additionally, the officer located a glass pipe used for ingesting Methamphetamine along with a usable amount of Methamphetamine. Vela was not the registered owner of the firearm. An investigation is underway to determine how Vela obtained the weapon. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on the following charges:
24500(a)(1) PC: Carrying a concealed firearm
25850(c)(6) PC: Possession of a loaded firearm not the registered owner
11370.1(HS): Possession of a controlled substance while in possession of an operable firearm.
