Santa Rosa Police Arrest Two Suspects in Matanzas Elementary School Burglary

On October 5, 2025, the Santa Rosa Police Department (SRPD) responded to Matanzas Elementary School, located at 1687 Yulupa Avenue, after a security guard reported two suspects on the property carrying a small appliance. When confronted, the suspects dropped the item and fled the area. Responding officers were initially unable to confirm whether any theft had occurred and coordinated with school officials for follow-up.

On October 7, 2025, school staff confirmed that multiple classrooms had been burglarized during the incident. Surveillance footage captured the suspects and their vehicle, and once the images were shared within SRPD, officers and detectives recognized the individuals. The suspects were responsible for stealing over $2,000 worth of classroom property, including tablets, a small plastic playhouse, clothing, and other school supplies.

On October 10, 2025, SRPD detectives from the Property Crimes and Narcotics Teams conducted surveillance at the suspects’ residence in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue. Both suspects were detained during a traffic stop after leaving the residence together. Around 2:55 p.m., detectives served a search warrant at the home and recovered the stolen children’s playhouse. They also located a methamphetamine smoking pipe belonging to another resident.

Additional searches of nearby storm drains led to the recovery of two stolen tablets.

23-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Samuel Nielsen, and 24-year-old Santa Rosa resident, David Acuna Mora, were booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the following violations;
459 PC – Burglary
487(a) PC – Grand Theft
182(a)(1) PC – Conspiracy

55-year-old Santa Rose resident, Susan Nielsen, was issued a citation and released for violation of 11364 HS – Possession of drug paraphernalia.
