We’re excited to share the latest progress and project milestones since last month’s update! The following are some of the Contractor’s accomplishments, what is currently in motion, and what is anticipated over the next month.
- Traffic Control: Temporary traffic light sequencing remains an issue, switching from a red–green cycle to flashing red during heavy snow. To maintain safety, the Contractor has implemented a monitoring plan for inclement weather.
- Demolition Completed: The Contractor has demolished the bridge decking, removed steel beams, and cleared wingwall blocking from each abutment.
- Cofferdam Installation: Metal sheeting was delivered and installed to create a temporary cofferdam around the south abutment. This watertight enclosure allows dewatering for a safe work area for construction workers.
- Vibration Monitoring: Vibration monitoring was used during metal sheet installation to protect nearby structures and manage risks, enabling halting work if necessary.
- Environmental Protection: The bottom of the temporary cofferdam was sealed with a plastic liner and sandbags to prevent sediment from entering the brook.
- Current Work: The Contractor is setting up a sedimentation basin and filtration system to manage suspended soils from water pumped from the cofferdam. Once complete, the Contractor will begin removal of the south bridge abutment.
- Next Steps: Continue demolition of the south abutment and then begin pouring concrete footings for both bridge abutments. Pouring the concrete footings is expected to be completed by mid-March.
