MEMA Alert: Extended (Time) Flood Warning For Maui Island Until 6:30 AM HST

MEMA Alert . . The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
The island of Maui in Maui County

* Until 630 AM HST.

* At 318 AM HST, although rainfall has eased, stream levels remain
elevated across portions of east Maui and Piilani Highway remains
closed west of Kaupo.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

SOURCE...Emergency management.

IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are
possible in steep terrain.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Kipahulu, Kaupo, Nahiku, Keanae, Kula, Keokea, Makawao, Hana,
Huelo, Haiku-Pauwela, Haleakala National Park, Wailua, Kailua and
Hamoa.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 630 AM HST if flooding
persists.
