City of Kirksville receives Distinguished Budget Award for 38th time

(Kirksville, MO) - The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Kirksville with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2025 budget.

This is the 38th time the City has received this award. The City also received special recognition for the strategic goals and strategies presented in the budget.

The award represents a significant achievement. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device.

Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
