Week of the Young Child 2026 schedule announced
(Kirksville, MO) - The City of Kirksville’s Parks and Recreation Department invites you to sing, play, and learn during the Week of the Young Child, April 20 through April 25, 2026. Hosted in partnership with the Kirksville Child Development Center, Adair County Public Library, Adair County Family YMCA and Kirksville Parents As Teachers, the week will be packed with events and activities that celebrate young children and their families to promote early learning.
Schedule of Events:
- Music Monday, April 20, 10:00 am @ The Early Childhood Learning Center. KCDC is hosting a musical adventure with singing and dancing, led by Shannon Cernecka.
- Build A Buddy, April 21, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm @ The Adair County Public Library. Come build rice-filled bunny pals. You don’t need to bring anything except a name for your new friend.
- Water Wednesday, April 22, 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm @ Kirksville Aquatic Center. Free admission to the Kirksville Aquatic Center for all children 6 and under, from 12:00-5:00 pm. Children must be accompanied in the water by an adult.
- Destination Imagination, April 23, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm @ The Adair County Family YMCA. Let your imagination run free and channel your engineering skills! Stop by the Adair County Family YMCA for free access to the Imagination Playground from 9:00 am-12:00 pm.
- Touch a Truck and Magic Show, April 24, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm @ Rotary Park. Come by to explore and take pictures with emergency and equipment vehicles. We will also have a free children's magic show at the Ray Klinginsmith Amphitheater from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Parking is available at the Kirksville Aquatic Center.
- Creation Station, April 25, 9:00 am to 11:00 am @ The Early Childhood Learning Center. Join Kirksville Parents As Teachers for a morning of building, designing, constructing and playing! Build a fort, topple a tower, or design a city.
