City of Wheaton, IL
Celebrate Halloween Safely: Tips for Families and Drivers

As children throughout our community start getting their costumes ready for Halloween, the City reminds you that Wheaton’s trick-or-treating hours are 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. With more children and families out in neighborhoods, drivers are reminded to slow down, stay alert and use extra caution throughout the afternoon and evening.
The Wheaton Police Department encourages families to keep these safety tips in mind:
- Stay visible. If trick-or-treating after dark, wear light-colored or reflective clothing, add reflective tape to costumes and treat bags, and carry a flashlight.
- Use sidewalks and cross safely. Trick-or-treat on one side of the street at a time, and cross at intersections rather than between parked cars or in the middle of the block.
- Choose safe costumes. Make sure costumes fit properly and do not obstruct vision. Consider face paint or makeup instead of masks that make it difficult to see.
- Stay together. Children should trick-or-treat with friends and younger children should always be accompanied by an adult or responsible teen.
- Plan ahead. Know your children’s route and who they are with, and remind them never to enter a home or vehicle for the promise of a treat.
- Respect your neighbors. Be courteous of others and their property while trick-or-treating.
Downtown Wheaton Trick-or-Treating:
