Mosquito Spraying Planned for September 3
The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District has notified the City of Wheaton that, weather permitting, its crews will spray for mosquitoes during the evening of Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026. Applications are typically made from dusk until 2 a.m.
This application is being performed following multiple mosquito samples testing positive for West Nile Virus in traps throughout the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District and surrounding communities. In addition, on Sept. 1, 2026, the DuPage County Health Department reported the first 2026 human case of WNV in DuPage County in an adult resident.
To prevent WNV, the DuPage County Health Department recommends following the 3 R’s of defense:
- Reduce the number of mosquitoes by removing containers outside that hold water and making sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens or keeping them closed.
- Repel mosquitos by using an EPA-registered insect repellent.
- Report areas where water sits for more than a week.
The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District is a separate entity from the City of Wheaton. The District covers 23 square miles and includes most of Wheaton as well as sections of Carol Stream, Glendale Heights and unincorporated Milton Township.
