Crews Responding after Strong Storms Hit Wheaton
Following severe thunderstorms that brought heavy rainfall and high winds to the Wheaton area this afternoon, City of Wheaton Public Works crews are actively responding to reports of localized flooding and fallen trees across the community.
The City’s primary focus is clearing roadways to ensure safe rights-of-way for emergency responders and the public. Public Works crews will remain in the field working continuously until major hazards and roadway obstructions are resolved.
Residents are asked to keep the following guidance in mind as cleanup efforts proceed:
- Report Non-Emergency Storm Issues: Residents are encouraged to report downed trees, fallen limbs, or localized street flooding through the City’s Online Services Portal at www.wheaton.il.us/servicerequest
- Report Power Outages & Hazardous Lines: For downed power lines or power outages, please contact ComEd directly at 1-800-Edison-1 (1-800-334-7661) or report online via the ComEd portal. Always assume any downed wire is live and dangerous.
- Exercise Caution: Motorists are advised to avoid driving through standing water on streets and to treat any intersection with non-functioning traffic signals as a four-way stop.
