Join City for Liberty Tree Planting Ceremony to Kick Off America 250 Events

Wheaton Informs
The City of Wheaton invites the community to help kick off Wheaton’s America 250 events with the America 250 Liberty Tree Planting Ceremony. This ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, on the south side of City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States, the City will mark this historic year by planting an American Liberty Elm, named for the Liberty Tree, an early symbol of freedom in Boston during our nation’s founding.

This ceremony will serve as the kickoff of Wheaton’s America 250 events, including participation by students from local schools, members of the City’s Forestry Division, music and more. This event is open to the community. In case of rain, the ceremony will take place in the Council Chambers of City Hall.

The community will continue celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with numerous events celebrating our community and our nation’s history, culminating with Wheaton’s popular Independence Day fireworks/drone show and parade, organized by the Wheaton Park District.
