For the week ending Sunday, June 29th, your officers handled 54 calls for service and conducted 124 traffic stops. Of those 124 stops, 51 resulted in citations and 73 were warnings.
There was only one property crime reported last week. A female was arrested for shoplifting at the H.E.B. Plus. See the arrest section below for more information. There were two other minor incidents. #1 - A contractor in the Lytle Farms subdivision was caught stealing water from the fire hydrant and agreed to pay the city for the water. #2 – An internal audit at the El Bufalo Pawn revealed a missing gold crucifix & gold earrings. By their policy, they report it to us.
There were five arrests last week, and one of those was “un-arrested”. #1 – A traffic stop in the 19300 Blk. of McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a 75-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #2 – A traffic stop on Railroad St. resulted in a 25-year-old male receiving a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia and being released at the scene. #3 – A traffic stop on McDonald St. resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old female who had an active warrant out of Medina County. Pre-existing medical conditions required clearance from the hospital. It was determined she needed to be admitted, so she was un-arrested and admitted to the hospital. #4 – On Saturday, Ofc. A. Lopez had stopped by H.E.B. Plus to grab some soup for lunch and was walking in as a shoplifter was headed out. He attempted to stop her, but she resisted. I was working and headed that way to assist. Her husband showed up and escalated the situation. We were able to calm him down and get her under arrest; she had made it out the front door with $308 worth of product. About $150 worth of that was beef tongues! She threw in a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper Zero. This “Beef Tongue Bandit” was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. I transported her and booked her in. When I arrived at the jail, a nice, very helpful, Sergeant lady asked me if I was new and how long I had been with Lytle P.D. I paused and replied, “Since 1997”. I told her I don’t make it to jail very often. #5 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old female for felony D.W.I. (3 or more prior convictions). She was booked into the Atascosa County Jail.
In other news, immediately after the H.E.B. arrest, I was dispatched to the Camino Real Crisis Center for a person who had escaped from the facility under an emergency detention order. I was able to track her down near McDonald's and began a little foot pursuit, which I lost. She entered a business near the Whataburger, and I was able to take her into custody. She was in a mental health crisis, so the situation was interesting. She was transported to a mental health facility in San Antonio. Dealing with two critical incidents in the same hour wore me out.
Final call … discharging fireworks is prohibited in the city limits. If you want to report illegal fireworks or need the police for any matter that requires a response (in the City of Lytle), please call the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office at 830-769-3434 Option #1. If it is an emergency call 911. The annual Independence Day Celebration will be on Friday, July 4th, at 6 PM. There will be a DJ and food trucks. The fireworks will start when it gets dark. A nice family fun event. Spend the evening with us or hang out at home and drop in for the fireworks.    -Richey.
