For the week ending Sunday, May 4th, 2025, … The Lytle P.D. handled 58 calls for service last week and conducted 58 traffic stops. Of those 58 stops, 25 resulted in citations and 33 were warnings. Overall, it was a busy week.
Property Crimes: We had 4 property crimes reported last week. #1- H.E.B. Plus reported the theft of several Wagyu briskets; the suspect attempted to return one for a full refund. He was identified, and charges are pending. The guy’s plan was simple … steal a $100 brisket and return it for the full value. He didn’t count on H.E.B.’s partners being so alert! H.E.B. didn’t get to be a big successful business by accident and their cameras are darn good. #2 – Burger King reported a burglary; a person entered through a window and removed some cash after the business was closed. #3 - Ofc. /Inv. A. Lopez, along with Ofc. T. Barrera responded to the Roadster Truck Stop for a report of a burglary of a vehicle. A backpack, a Chromebook, a purse, and numerous other items were taken. After reviewing the video, Sgt./Inv. D. Lopez and Ofc. /Inv. A. Lopez, along with Ofc. T. Barrera went to a residence just outside the city on Benton City Road. This is where it gets good … Officers recovered most of the property from the vehicle burglary, the Chromebook had been shot with a shotgun …, the suspect observed the Chromebook belonged to Lytle ISD, and didn’t want it being tracked. Our vehicle burglary guy happened to be the same person who was a suspect in our Burger King burglary! Ofc. /Inv. A. Lopez was able to obtain a full confession; charges are pending. This was excellent police work! When there are leads, we will follow them until we hit a dead end. There are a lot of dead ends, but this story had a successful conclusion … at least from the standpoint where someone will be held accountable. #4 – A Peterbilt truck tractor parked at the Park & Ride on IH-35 was burglarized. Two fuel cards, a Garmin GPS (I didn’t know people still used those), and a pair of gloves were taken. Officers will be conducting a follow-up investigation. A person also reported a “barn” fan being taken out of his pickup while parked at the Roadster Truck Stop. After reviewing approximately 40 minutes of video, officers couldn’t confirm that the theft occurred there.
Offices made 9 arrests last week: #1 – A 20-year-old male was arrested for disorderly conduct after he pointed a gun at a passing motorist! It was determined to be a BB gun. Clark Griswold and the security at Wally World (John Candy) had a heated discussion about the dangers of a BB gun. He was booked into the Medina Co. Jail. #2 – Officers followed up on a report of a 17-year-old male carrying a handgun at the Burger King, The 17-year-old male was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon (A Glock 9mm handgun). He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #3 – A traffic stop on N. Somerset St. resulted in the citation and release of a 41-year-old male for possession of drug paraphernalia. #4 – A traffic stop on the IH-35 access road resulted in the arrest of a 46-year-old female for an active narcotics warrant out of Bexar Co. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #5 & #6 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old male for D.W.I and a 37-year-old male for Public Intoxication. They were both booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #7 – A traffic stop on the access road of IH-35 resulted in the arrest of a 73-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. #8 & #9 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the citation and release of a 37-year-old male and a 33-year-old female for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The city added stop signs to two intersections: Magnolia St. @ Florence St. and Magnolia St. @ S. Benton. Magnolia St. had become a “cut-through” street to avoid the congestion on Main St. Hopefully, these stop signs will help control the flow of traffic and cut down on speeders in the neighborhood.
It was a busy week; I am glad we are fully staffed! -Richey
