Lytle Police Chief's Weekly Report - April 28, 2025

April 28, 2025
Greetings,
We have uploaded the weekly report to our website (www.lytletx.org/police). Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Current Weekly Report.” If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. You can reach me at our office (830-709-0277) or by email @ richard.priest@lytletx.org. There will be a regular city council meeting tonight (Monday, April 28, 2025) at Lytle City Hall, it starts at 6:30 PM. It’s like a Baptist Church; if you get there late, you might have to sit up front. If the weather cooperates, we will be testing the Tornado warning sirens on Wednesday, April 30th, at noon. The city has upgraded hardware and wants to test it before our regular test on the first Wednesday of the month. City Offices will be closed on Friday, May 2nd, in observance of the Battle of Flowers Parade Holiday.

For the week ending Sunday, April 27th … The Lytle P.D. handled 44 calls for service last week and conducted 49 traffic stops. Of those 49 stops, 22 resulted in citations and 27 were warnings.
Officers did not take any reports of property crimes last week! – That is music to my ears.
Officers made six (6) arrests last week: #1 – Officers observed a pickup in the ditch off the IH-35 Access Rd. The contact resulted in the arrest of a 70-year-old male for D.W.I. The person was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail (Ofc. S. Mendez assisted by Ofc. J. Cortez). #2 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 41-year-old female. She had an active warrant out of Atascosa Co. for theft. Officers also located narcotics and charged her with possession of a controlled substance. She was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail (Officers T. Barrera and A. Lopez). #3 – A contact with a vehicle in the drive-thru lane at Whataburger (with two flat tires) resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old male for D.W.I. and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail (Ofc. J. Cortez assisted by Ofc. S. Mendez). The Whataburger Drive Thru strikes again! #4 & #5 – A traffic stop on Main St. for a muffler violation (excessive noise) resulted in a “citation and release” of a 20-year-old male and a 20-year-old female for Class C Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia (Ofc. R. Garcia assisted by Ofc. F. Reyes). #6 – A traffic stop on Main St. resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old male for D.W.I. He was booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail (Ofc. J. Cortez assisted by Ofc. S. Mendez).
Officers conducted an Emergency Mental Health Detention, and a male was transported to Camino Real Crisis Center in Lytle.
The City of Lytle Community Clean Up is set for Saturday, May 3. Roll-off dumpsters will be located at Lytle City Hall and the Lytle High School Parking lot. They will be available from 8 AM to 11 AM. What you can drop off … furniture, mattresses, sinks, etc. What you can’t drop off … batteries, electronics, paint, oil, tires, etc. Visit the city’s website or call city hall for more information. This is for residents of the City of Lytle only. Please bring proof of residency.
Mayor Gonzalez provided this valuable information:  “Surrounding communities and cities along 1-35 south of San Antonio. I-35 Closures both northbound and southbound on the night of 4th & 18th of May (9pm - 5am) (At Lytle; I-35 interstate between San Antonio and Laredo.)   CPS Energy will be doing utility line work across I-35 and will require interstate to be closed intermittently on the nights of 4th and 18th of May. Please be safe and plan for additional time on your commute on I-35.
(For residents at Lytle, just use Main Street or Hwy 132 to reach an on and off exit ramp during a period of closure. Expect more traffic on our Main Street for those two nights.      Please be safe and give yourselves extra time if on our roads.)”
Someone texted me with a Facebook post from Devine P.D. where Chief Kandy Benevides announced her retirement. I know she has worked for the P.D. for a long time. She was there back in the late 90s’ when my brother was a Devine cop. I wish her the best in her retirement. I had hoped she would contact me first as I was thinking we could do a joint retirement party, maybe rent the Alamo Dome and fill it up.  I’m surprised that I have only received a few dozen calls wondering if I was interested in being the next Devine P.D. Chief.  I get a lot of calls from people looking for me, but usually it’s just bill collectors.
