Media Release Shooting on Butch Cassidy St.

Lytle Police Department
Press Release
10/5/2026

On October 4, 2026, at approximately 10:42 PM, Lytle Police Department officers responded to a disturbance in the 14600 Block of Butch Cassidy (located in the Saddle Ridge Estates Subdivision). Ofc. / Inv. A. Lopez and Ofc. T. Barrera were the initial responding officers.
The suspect from the initial disturbance, who appeared aggressive and out of control according to witnesses, fled the residence and entered another residence just a couple of houses away. He had no connection to that residence; it appears to have been selected at random.
After entering the residence and cornering the homeowner, the homeowner used a firearm to protect his life and the life of his family. The suspect was a 36-year-old male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At the site of the initial violent disturbance, it was determined that a female juvenile had knife wounds. She was transported to University Hospital.
  • There is no current threat to the public.

  • In accordance with policy, we requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers. Ranger T. Snyder responded and assisted Capt. M. Dear and Sgt. D. Lopez with processing both crime scenes.

  • This is an ongoing investigation; we will release more information as it becomes available and if it is appropriate for release.
