...Critical Fire Weather Conditions Today...
.Very warm temperatures combined with dry vegetation, low
relative humidity, and increasing winds will create conditions
conducive for any grassland fires that develop to spread rapidly.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT
this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
* AFFECTED AREA...Much of central and southern Iowa.
* WIND...Southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts 25 to 35 mph.
* HUMIDITY...Minimum relative humidity in the afternoon of 15 to
25 percent.
* IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.
Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Instructions
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
