Winter Weather Alert: Stay Safe & Prepared
A significant winter storm is expected to impact Gwinnett County this weekend, bringing freezing rain with ice accumulations greater than 0.25 inches and wind gusts exceeding 30 mph.
Primary Threats:
-
Widespread travel disruptions: Ice-covered roads and bridges will make driving hazardous or impossible at times. For your safety, avoid traveling during this period.
-
Power outages: Ice accumulation combined with strong winds may down trees and power lines.
-
Lingering impacts: Very cold temperatures will slow ice melt, allowing dangerous conditions to persist into Monday morning.
The Norcross Police Department will be fully staffed throughout the duration of this winter weather event to respond to emergencies and ensure public safety. Please report downed power lines, fallen trees, or other emergencies to Norcross Police at 770-448-2111.
In addition, Public Works crews will be salting roads ahead of the storm to help improve driving conditions, and Norcross Power and Public Works crews will be on standby to respond quickly to downed trees and storm-related issues.
A follow-up update will be issued Friday afternoon as weather conditions continue to develop.
