Headline

Flood Watch issued July 18 at 12:18PM MDT until July 18 at 6:00PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

Description

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...A portion of central New Mexico, including the following
area, South Central Mountains.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM MDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur
in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be
flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Thunderstorms will continue to increase in coverage and
rainfall intensity in the Ruidoso area through early and mid
afternoon, when there will be the greatest risk of flash
flooding. High resolution models now depict storm coverage
decreasing through late afternoon, with fewer and weaker
storms possible early this evening. There is enough moisture
in the atmosphere for a few of the stronger storms to produce
rain at rates near 2 inches per hour this afternoon. Burn
scars and locations with saturated ground from recent heavy
rains will be especially susceptible to rapid runoff and
flash flooding.
